AUTOCAD & SOLID WORKS

Many of the professional applications we test require certified hardware and drivers, as well as workstation-class graphics cards. Then again, a growing number of companies, including Autodesk, have switched from OpenGL to DirectX. This means that there are some workstation-class apps you can run on desktop-oriented components for a lot less money. The following results provide a good overview of where this kind of setup can be expected to work, and what it looks like when it doesn’t.

We’re focusing exclusively on AutoCAD’s 3D performance, since its 2D component is affected by host processing, rather than GPU capabilities. As usual, we’re using the Cadalyst benchmark and AutoCAD 2015.

The current version of SPECviewperf 12 includes an assortment of common business applications with fitting workloads. Its Maya test illustrates what happens when the GeForce GTX 1080 isn’t held back by some other platform component. A 44 percent advantage over the Quadro M6000 should translate to a similar advantage over GeForce GTX Titan X. The rest of the competition can’t keep up.

The 3D Modelling Applications these days are becoming more and more about 3D space. This is where GTX cards pull ahead of the QUADRO lineup - and by a significant margin. Costing half the price of modern day QUADRO cards, in most cases it is a much better option for business to save some cash and use gaming cards to render their projects.

New GPU Computing Model for Artificial Intelligence

Yann LeCun, Director of Facebook AI Research, invited NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang to speak at “The Future of AI” symposium at NYU, where industry leaders discussed the state of AI and its continued advancement.

Robot Learning New Tasks from YouTube Videos

By watching a person make a mixed drink, a robot trained on NVIDIA GPUs at the University of Maryland will then copy those actions to pour the right quantities into your drink. The robot – a two-armed industrial machine – watched a person mix a drink by pouring liquid from several bottles into a jug, and would then copy those actions, grasping bottles in the correct order before pouring the right quantities into the jug.

“We call it a ‘robot training academy,’” says Yezhou Yang, a graduate student in the Autonomy, Robotics and Cognition Lab at the University of Maryland. “We ask an expert to show the robot a task, and let the robot figure out most parts of sequences of things it needs to do, and then fine-tune things to make it work.”

The approach involves training a computer system to associate specific robot actions with video footage showing people performing various tasks. A recent paper from the group, for example, shows that a robot can learn how to pick up different objects using two different systems by watching thousands of instructional YouTube videos. One system learns to recognize different objects; another identifies different types of grasp.

A Car That Can Anticipate Your Next Driving Maneuver

Through a project called Brain4Cars, Stanford and Cornell researchers released a new architecture consisting of Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) that use Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) units to predict driving maneuvers several seconds in advance. This enables assistive cars to alert drivers before they make a dangerous maneuver. Maneuver anticipation complements existing Advance Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) by giving drivers more time to react to road situations and thereby can prevent many accidents

Can that can anticipate next maneuver

Using a Tesla K40, the researchers trained their deep learning architecture in a sequence-to-sequence prediction manner, and it explicitly learns to predict the future given only a partial temporal context. We further introduce a novel loss layer for anticipation which prevents over-fitting and encourages early anticipation. They use their architecture to anticipate driving maneuvers several seconds before they happen on a natural driving data set of 1180 miles. The context for maneuver anticipation comes from multiple sensors installed on the vehicle. The approach shows significant improvement over the state-of-the-art in maneuver anticipation by increasing the precision from 77.4% to 90.5% and recall from 71.2% to 87.4%.

Real Time Pedestrian Detection using Cascades of Deep Neural Networks

Google Research presents a new real-time approach to object detection that exploits the efficiency of cascade classifiers with the accuracy of deep neural networks. Pedestrian detectors is very important as it relates to a variety of applications including advanced driver assistance systems, or surveillance systems. The need for very high-accurate and real-time speed is crucial that can be relied on and are fast enough to run on systems with limited compute power.

Real-Time Pedestrian Detection With Deep Cascades

The research team combined a fast cascade with a cascade of deep neural networks which is both very fast, running in real-time at 67 milliseconds on GPU per image or 15 frames per second. Their approach was trained using the publicly available ‘cuda-convnet2’ code  running on an NVIDIA Tesla K20 GPU.

Each system component has a “View” button beside it. When clicked, a full product description and actual cost of component is shown. Should a customer wish to purchase any item separately, they can go back to the main store section of the website and buy the item for that exact price. Each item on the Extreme PC website has detailed information accompanied with actual image(s) of the product.

Virtual Reality Gaming:


If you’ve been around the world of games and tech for a while, it’s natural to be just a little cynical about the new wave of virtual reality.
